Manchester City host Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in a fixture that decided the destination of the Premier League title last season (and not in City’s favour). For the Sky Blues, this is a chance to put things right and get their 2026/27 campaign off to a positive start. For Bournemouth, arriving under a new manager and with a freshly rebuilt squad, it is the opening test of life after one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
The title that slipped away in Bournemouth
Manchester City’s 2025/26 Premier League title challenge ended not on the final day of the season, but three days before it. A trip to the Vitality Stadium needed a win to keep the title race alive. Instead, Junior Kroupi’s first-half strike put City behind, and although Erling Haaland salvaged a stoppage-time equaliser, the 1-1 draw was enough to officially crown Arsenal champions, ending City’s hopes with a game still to play. For City supporters, the Bournemouth fixture carries a particular sting going into next season — a reminder of the afternoon the title was lost rather than won.
Bournemouth: A new manager, an unknown quantity
Bournemouth themselves are entering a fascinating new chapter. Andoni Iraola, the manager who guided the club to its highest-ever Premier League finish and a first-ever European qualification, departed for Liverpool at the end of last season. His replacement, Marco Rose arrives with a strong pedigree from German football, previously holding the top job at RB Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund. However, he’s yet to have any experience of the Premier League. Quite how Bournemouth will look under his management, and how much of Iraola’s high-pressing identity survives the transition, remains to be seen.
Man city: Pep Guardiola’s departure — a new era at the Etihad
This fixture also marks a changing of the guard on the home side. Pep Guardiola’s extraordinary ten-year reign at Manchester City has come to an end, with the Spaniard leaving a legacy of 20 trophies before departing following the 2025/26 season. Enzo Maresca who served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s treble-winning 2022/23 campaign before managerial spells at Leicester City and Chelsea it expected to be appointed as his successor.
Maresca inherits a City side determined to reclaim the title after finishing as runners-up to Arsenal, but also a squad in transition — with Bernardo Silva and John Stones, having departed, and almost the entirety of Guardiola’s backroom staff leaving alongside him. This early-season meeting with Bournemouth will be one of Maresca’s first opportunities to stamp his own identity on a City side still adjusting to life without the manager who defined the last decade of the club’s history.

What kind of hospitality packages are available at the Etihad?
The prices on the comparison cards below represent the cheapest available hospitality package from each provider. Most providers also offer more elaborate tiers with dining included, at a higher price point. Two are worth specifically flagging:
P1 Travel’s Media Zone Hospitality package includes buffet-style food and currently sits in the £150–£200 bracket — a strong mid-tier option if dining is important to you. Champions Travel’s Citizens Back Four Hospitality package includes a three-course carvery meal and is currently priced at around £295.
It is also worth noting that while SportsBreaks’ package does not include food at the stadium, it does include an overnight hotel stay — making it a strong option for overseas visitors or anyone travelling a significant distance to Manchester for the match, where the value of a bundled hotel stay may outweigh the lack of in-stadium catering.

What to expect on the day
Whatever happens between now and August, this fixture will be watched closely by both sets of supporters. For City, it is an opportunity to address unfinished business from last season. For Bournemouth, it is the first proper test of the Marco Rose era against one of the division’s traditional heavyweights. Add the simple unpredictability of an opening or early-season fixture against a newly managed side and this has all the makings of a scintilliating afternoon at the Etihad.
